Join your friendly guide at the meeting point and set off on a 90 minute journey into the picturesque Southern Highlands - home to an extraordinary diversity of native Australian wildlife. As you travel, hear fascinating stories about the creatures we’re likely to encounter and discover how to spot the tell-tale signs of more elusive species. On arrival, enjoy a light lunch before learning about inspiring local conservation projects and the art of wildlife tracking. Spend the afternoon exploring bushland and open country teeming with birdlife - delight in the laughter of kookaburras, watch flashes of crimson and yellow as rosellas and cockatoos fly past, and keep your eyes peeled for wandering emu. In the late afternoon encounter kangaroos grazing, wallabies darting through the undergrowth, and, if you’re lucky, the elusive platypus feeding in still waters. As dusk settles, savour a hearty dinner in a historic country pub. Then head out into the night armed with special red spotlights, searching for nocturnal marsupials - wombats ambling across moonlit clearings, possums feeding in the treetops, and tiny feathertail gliders on the move. Return to Sydney under the stars, your camera and memories filled with the magic of Australia’s wildlife in its natural habitat.
