Avenue on Sussex

I actually love this little place. I went for breakfast. My coffee, big breakfast and yoghurt and fruit were great. The staff were lovely and helpful, I had a really relaxing morning there. There is outdoor and indoor seating and heaters for warmth. Great experience right on the edge of darling harbour. Much better than some in Darling Harbour on the water, worth the short walk to Avenue.
We had a great meal at Avenue on Sussex with our group of six and our 11-month-old baby. The food was excellent. I had the house-made ziti, which was delicious, and the white wine was correct. Service was warm and attentive, and they provided a high chair for the baby. The only downside is there’s no baby changing table. Otherwise, everything was perfect. Highly recommended.
Although the service was a little slow (short staffed because Fridays are dead in the city now) I just had to write a review about their awesome food (and location!). I ordered the shashuka and it was hands down the best one I’ve ever tasted. Cheddar instead of feta which I prefer toasted and melted over the entire top like French onion soup, with the two poached eggs encased in delicious cheese, all covering a rich lean mince and tomato sauce with peas and spinach thrown in! I mentioned it was the best I’ve tasted to the owner and to my surprise he didn’t take the credit for himself, he shouted the chef to come out the kitchen and told me she created it, as a very smiley and bashful young female chef looked on, fully deserving of the praise. I hope it made her day, as she made mine and I’ll be back!
