Kimpton Margot Sydney
Sydney
Recenzje
Nestled in what can only be described as one of Sydney CBD's less Instagrammable postcodes, this art-deco hotel is quite proud of its five stars and its heritage listing. Understandably so. A quick look around confirmed the ground-floor lobby and lounge are genuinely nice upon first sight. The rooms, however, did not get the memo. I arrived around 10am and was greeted with a smile that had clearly been practiced, along with the news that my room would be ready by 3pm — or immediately, if I felt like paying an extra $100. Tempting, but no. I wasn't the only one who felt that way either; a fair few other guests were sleeping off their jet lag on the lobby chairs rather than take the deal. Nice work there, Kimpton. As an IHG status member, I was rewarded with a dark cave on the towering sixth floor, offering an intimate view of the neighbouring building's fire wall, almost close enough to high-five if the window opened. Retreating to the ground-floor lounge for a consolidation drink isn't much of an escape either. Rarely have I sat somewhere so thoroughly unwelcoming — acoustics like a car park, seating clearly chosen for looks rather than anything resembling comfort, and staff serving up the same plastic warmth as before. All in all, it had me finishing my drink faster than I'd like to admit, just so I could leave. Margot's definitely not for me.
Update: since writing this review, the response has been surprising. I got a phone call from the manager apologising sincerely for the experience and offering a free breakfast which i respectfully declined. The following morning I was spoken to by the manager who again apologised and said that I should not have had this experience. They offered to not charge our room service meals which I said was unnecessary. What I will say to people reading this is that dont let one staff member and their attitude ruin your stay. I stay at this hotel every month to see my daughter and I cannot fault the front desk staff. My daughter and I are on first name basis with one of the room service male employees and generally speaking our experiences have always been fantastic. Its just this one occasion that unfortunately dampened the whole experience but they went above and beyond to fix the problem and I appreciated that. Old review:I became a regular here when my daughter moved to Sydney last year and I fly up to visit her every month. Usually the visits are lovely but on this particular visit I got the distinct impression from certain staff members I was not welcome and they were sick of seeing me which confused me as I've never made a complaint and always tip room service and my daughter loves it here. Unfortunately due to my daughter living here I need somewhere to stay so I have made the decision to find another regular hotel to stay.
I stayed here a number of nights for the first time. I have visited Sydney many times. The first room I had was one of the suites and there was plenty of room with the living room, bedroom, and plenty fo closet storage. I had some large bags and everything worked great. I found breakfast to be good with many choices, however on weekends things can be hectic at peak times. One sorely lacking feature was the room service menu. Over two different stays I used room service for lunch and dinner. The menu is extremely parse. It really makes no sense. I have traveled the world and I can say the menu choices made no sense at all. Any common items you might expect to see are not offered at all. If you are going to offer room service, it just cant be so small an offering. The hotel promotes Lukes Kitchen and there are far more offerings in the dining room. Why cant the room service menu be expanded? The hotel has a really nice decor in the public spaces. I didnt have time to use the bars, but they look really nice and upscale. On my second stay I was checked into an accessible room, which frankly was like a hospital room. I wish the front desk advised me it was like that so I was prepared.
I stayed here on a business trip to Sydney and had an absolutely fantastic experience. The hotel is very centrally located and just a short walk to excellent restaurants, cafes, bars, shopping, and the train station, which made getting everywhere I needed to go incredibly easy. The check-in process was seamless. Since my room wasn’t ready when I arrived, they handled all the paperwork right away, stored my bags, and let me know they would text me the moment it was available. I just grabbed a coffee in the beautiful lobby, freshened up in the ground-floor bathroom, and headed out to explore the neighborhood. I had also ordered a few items online to be sent to the hotel ahead of my stay. The reception team quickly confirmed they had arrived safely and held them for me to retrieve whenever I wanted, which was incredibly convenient. The building itself is stunning, and I absolutely loved the heritage Art Deco design. Walking into the reception area and lobby from the street is an experience in itself, with its high ceilings, ornate pillars, and gorgeous hanging lights. Another fantastic touch is their daily social hour in the lobby from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, where guests can unwind and enjoy complimentary red, white, or sparkling wine. My room was spacious, modern, and clean. After being out for meetings the entire day, returning to such a comfortable and quiet space for a good night's rest was exactly what I needed. Overall, it’s a beautiful hotel with spacious rooms and top-tier service. I look forward to staying here again on my next trip to Sydney!
We stayed here on April during the ANZAC period 2026. I’d like to thank the young man Von for his warm assistance on our first day. He kindly offered to help with our luggage and arranged storage while we went out for lunch before check-in. They also called us just before 3 pm to let us know our room was ready. As part of the AMEX Hotel Collection benefits, we were pleasantly surprised to receive a room upgrade, early check-in, and a late checkout until 2 pm without even needing to ask. The staff proactively explained all our benefits, which we really appreciated. A special mention as well to the lovely lady at the breakfast check-in with black-and-white hair — she was incredibly thoughtful, always checking if our son wanted another juice or if we’d like more coffee. We also loved that breakfast was freshly made to order rather than buffet-style. Lastly, the concierge, Buster, was fantastic — very friendly, helpful, and great with our son during checkout. Overall, the staff were exceptional.. We can’t wait to return and book another stay at this hotel — it truly deserves five stars from us. The location is top-notch right in the heart of the CBD. You cannot beat it. P.S. Be sure to try the room service — it was excellent. The food arrived quickly, was delicious, and we enjoyed it so much we ordered twice during our stay. The hotel also offers a daily social hour from 5 pm to 6 pm, where guests can enjoy a complimentary alcoholic drink in the lobby and socialise. It was a lovely touch and a very thoughtful gesture from Kimpton.
