A hidden gem and a must try for all Chinese food lovers. This has got to be the best Cantonese food I’ve had by far in all my life, no exaggeration. We ordered the steamed fish fried rice, xo prawn and vermicelli, curry fish balls, soup, and way more than we should have. Even what seemed like a simple veggie and tofu dish tasted fantastic. Highly recommend to go if you ever have a chance. The owners mentioned that bookings on the weekends is a must as they get full very quickly. The store is not big either, with about 6 or so tables with varying seating capacity. So make sure you call ahead to book a table. They also sell their home made fish balls as frozen foods ready to take home. All in all, 1000% would go back despite it being quite a trek from where we live. I don’t think you’ll regret coming here.
Heard about this cozy restaurant quite some time back when a Korean acquaintance and his wife (who were foodies) highly recommended it to us. They did warn us that it’s bit pricey and best to go with ideally 4 or more people. Today we went as 4 adults and 1 kid (who didn’t eat much). We spent $207 which was, pretty expensive indeed 😂 My husband and my favourite dishes were - wagyu beef French bean ($38) and the braised pork belly. The fish on top of the fried rice was not bad too (& the fussy kid remarked that it taste better than Maccas 😂). But we found the fried rice so so, and perhaps cause I’m generally not a huge fan of fishball, I can’t tell that the fishball soup is amazing quality or something. Oh, they also serve a platter of fruits at the end of the meal, which was a sweet surprise - the watermelon was so juicy! But… the mango sago is like the best mango sago we’ve had in Sydney!! ($8.80). If only the restaurant is nearer to our home, we would get the mango sago every week 😂😂 I think it was our favouritest dish hahahah - better than the mango sago at the HK dessert place at Eastwood (which we just had yesterday) and on par/slightly better than the one at Panda Yumcha. Service/staff was friendly, and the small restaurant was quickly filled up during dinner time. But considering how much the meal cost… I don’t think we’ll be back anytime soon 😅😅 nonetheless, good food and a hearty meal :)
Came here as a group of 6 and enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch. Service was attentive and prompt, ambience nice and quiet, not too echoey. Standout dishes for me were the steamed toothfish rice, the fish was soft with a buttery texture, and the rice had a clean umami flavour having been cooked with the fish, squid and dried scallops. The crab vermicelli pot was absolutely delicious, crab was fresh and the vermicelli so flavoursome. It was preordered via whatsapp (their correspondence is very good) prior to that day. Sweet and sour pork was crispy and not overly battered. I enjoyed all the 8 dishes we ordered. Just a heads up the toilet amenities are outside and may not be wheelchair accessible.
Hands down the best Hong Kong / Cantonese food I have had in Sydney. I was in Hong Kong last month and Fishboy Kitchen’s food is better than most of the restaurants I went to (unless I pay through the roof for a Michelin star restaurant - Tony’s cooking is comparable!). Worthwhile mentioning that they also sell frozen fish balls and frozen dishes (e.g. 梅菜扣肉，咖喱牛腩，冬蟲草螺頭煲雞湯）which are 5-star rated!
