Pros: Location is good with plenty of restaurants, bars, bookstores and grocery within a short walk away. Laundry facilities were free. Cons: The rooms are quite small and the hallways leading up to our room smelled like bleach and musky. The shower pressure is lacking. The hotel also doesn't feel very safe as anyone can walk into the hotel and use the elevator as they are not key controller or restricted. They also do not provide ice.
[WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE] I really enjoyed my stay at Megaboom Hotel. It was very easy to access from Sydney Airport using the train, which made arriving stress-free. I got there early around 10am, and the hotel was able to store my luggage until check-in at 2pm, which was very convenient. I was also pleasantly surprised when they upgraded my booking to a larger room. For anyone with a disability or needing wheelchair access, they offer very spacious accessible rooms that are well adapted and comfortable. The location is another big plus — the Queen Victoria Building tram station is right around the corner, making it easy to reach the main attractions around Sydney. If I come back to Sydney, I would definitely consider staying here again. Private entrance to the floors.
Originally booked the compact single room. I was pleasantly surprised by a complimentary upgrade to the king room. The room suited my needs well, great proximity to train and light rail stations, and within walking distance of many attractions. The room itself was tidy and comfortable and had fast wifi, air-conditioning, mini fridge, and amenities. Would recommend if you are after something central, comfortable and affordable. Also service was lovely, the receptionist was kind, and also the house keeping staff.
We really enjoyed our stay at Megaboom Hotel. It is not a luxurious property, but the location is absolutely perfect and was a real luxury for us during our 5-day trip to Sydney. We only needed to use public transport once to get to Bondi Beach; for everything else, we were able to just walk everywhere. The rooms are definitely on the smaller side, but the main issue is that there is too much furniture for the size of the space. In a room where you can barely open two suitcases, having three separate tables felt unnecessary. The layout could definitely be reorganized to be a bit more functional, but other than that, everything was great. The bed was very comfortable, and it was helpful to have a fridge and a kettle in the room. However, the check-in process was quite stressful. The website states that reception is open until 23:00 and that there is a charge for arrivals after 01:00, which leaves a confusing "grey zone" in between. We informed the hotel the day before that we might be late as our plane was landing at 22:00. They weren't very responsive via email and insisted we call them, which isn't convenient for international travelers without an Australian phone number. When we arrived after 23:00, the main door was locked and there was no button to call reception. We luckily found a public phone booth on the same street to finally get in. Overall, it was a very solid and convenient choice for exploring the city, but they could definitely improve their communication and entry system for late arrivals. All good!
A Comfortable Stay That Ticks All the Boxes The rooms give you enough space to relax and recharge, giving you that rare feeling of actually being able to breathe and move around freely — a welcome change from the cramped quarters you often encounter in the city central area. The bed is a real highlight: large, inviting, and fitted with a firm mattress that delivered a genuinely restful night's sleep. The furniture throughout the room is enough for basic needs. The bathroom was spotless and had plenty of space in the shower. The fluffy towels were a lovely touch — the kind of small detail that you really appreciate. the in-room tea and coffee setup was a great addition for badly jet-lagged travellers like us. The surroundings are pleasantly quiet, which is perfect for undisturbed rest day or night. But the best of all was location: walking distance (30 minutes) to Opera House, Circular Quay, Sea Life Museum in the Darling Harbour. Lots of various shopping options for any wallet from upscale to mass market options. All in all, a very solid stay with nothing to complain about and plenty to praise. I'd recommend this hotel without hesitation and will absolutely be returning on future visits. 👍
