Stayed at the wool store last month to celebrate my birthday and was super impressed. They went out of their way to create a personalised hand written card & lovely message on the mirror. Room was spacious & had everything you need for a short stay. The design of the rooms & lobby was very unique and cool and a great way to repurpose a historical building. Ala carte breakky every morning was amazing really enjoyed the chilli scramble & Sheppard's breaky. Location was convenient right next to a tram station taking you into central or it's a nice walk in if the weather is nice. Reception staff were super friendly & helpful and the housekeeping team were polite every morning in the corridors. The room windows could do with an exterior clean is the only room of improvement I could suggest & a gym or pool access would be great too. Overall loved it here & wish we stayed longer cheers jarah
In a great location to walk to Darling harbour, close to light rail. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was good and comfortable. Only downside was we were above the restaurant, the radio the staff use at 6am comes directly into our room, along with the smell of whatever they were cooking.
TL;DR: the Star Trek welcome was genuinely lovely. The night's sleep was not. The basics weren't in order, and that's what hotels are for. This may or may not have been an aberration, but it was a major issue for me that they were unable to fix. First, credit where it's due: for years I've added a note to my hotel bookings asking staff to surprise me with something Star Trek-themed. Almost no one bothers. The Woolstore 1888 hand-made a personalised welcome card — Spock, the Vulcan salute, stardate logged, and a wish for a stay free of Klingon disruptions and unexpected tribble encounters. It's in the photos. That's now the fourth hotel in many years of trying that's actually engaged with this. Whoever made it: thank you. That part was wonderful. The room itself was a cute two-level setup (lounge downstairs, bed up in the loft) with exposed brick, wooden beams, and genuine character. The bathroom is modern, the shower is tall enough, the bed is comfortable. WiFi clocked a perfectly adequate 40/47Mbps. As a piece of design, it's lovely. What it isn't is quiet. The metal roof panels above the bed rattled persistently all night. There's a low humming noise coming from somewhere in the ceiling, the A/C is on the noisier side, and trucks on the road outside add another layer. By midnight I'd given up and gone down to reception, with the rattling being the most bothersome of these. They told me the hotel was at capacity and couldn't move me. When I specifically asked, they gave me earplugs. That was the entire response: no escalation, no offer of any other accommodation, no acknowledgement that the most basic thing a hotel exists to provide — a quiet room and a night's sleep — wasn't being delivered. I raised the issue again after departure. The hotel didn't follow up at all. Make of that what you will. A hotel can have all the character and creative welcome cards in the world, but if it can't deliver a quiet room and doesn't engage when it can't, the basics aren't in order. Two stars, both of them earned by Spock.
Could not have been happier with our three night stay recently at the old Woolstores. It is easy to get around from here.... Light Rail Transit gives easy access from the Airport, and you can easily also walk up to the ferry terminal to go via the iconic waterway into Circular Quay. The staff were just wonderful. It was a birthday stay for me, and the manager and staff when we checked in made sure everything was extra special for my birthday stay! Our booking included breakfast in the morning, and the options (all a la carte) were just great. Coffee was also fab. In the evenings, the space converts into a spanish tapas bar and we enjoyed that one night, as well. Seemed very authentic! I felt like I was back in Madrid. We will definitely be back when we are next in Sydney. Do yourself a favour and book this great establishment.
Stayed at The Woolstore 1888 by Ovolo and really glad we finally made it back. We were actually meant to stay a few weeks ago but had to cancel due to a family situation, so it was good to return and follow through, definitely worth it. The Homestead Suite was excellent spacious, comfortable and nice little bar and lounge area in the room. The whole hotel has that boutique feel that makes it stand out from the usual spots. Nice touch with the complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and snacks waiting in the room on arrival too. Staff were super friendly and easygoing, and breakfast was really tasty simple but done properly. We had the smashed avocado on sourdough bread. Parking was easy as well, we used Wilson at Harbourside across the road and pre-booked online which worked out cheaper. Overall just a really easy, enjoyable stay. Would happily come back again. Booked through Qantas to take advantage of QFF points.
