The Basin Dining Room

We were fortunate enough to book on first table and we had the most wonderful dining experience. Firstly, I have never seen such genuinely happy staff. You could see/hear it through their interactions with us, with the other guests as well as their interactions with each other! Onto the food, each course was prepared with thought. The flavours were well matched and each dish was well presented. The stand out dishes were - entree: scallops and the tuna tartare. Both our mains were great - steak frites and blue eye cod. Desserts: while I am absolutely obsessed with chocolate, the miso butterscotch sauce on the sticky date absolutely blew my mind - order this!! Thank you for a wonderful birthday celebration. We were truly spoilt and can't wait to come back.
The food at Basin Dining Room was outstanding. We ordered the baked scallops and grilled wagyu beef, and both were cooked to perfection. The staff were some of the friendliest we’ve ever met, and their recommendations were practical and spot on, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. The lobster risotto is an absolute must-try. Highly recommend this place, and we’ll definitely be back!
Great place with a view of the beach. Service was good and attentive and the restaurant overall had a good ambience. Now onto the food, the oysters were done well, fresh and paired nicely with the finger lime. The crab pasta was average, nothing really stood out and the flavours of the crab did not stand out. Barramundi was a popular dish, but I cant comprehend why, only seasoned with salt it lacked any depth of flavour, the sauce at the bottom was very creamy and rich but also lacked any flavour. There was no acidity to this dish to cut the richness and provide additional senses to the taste buds.
Absolutely faultless experience once again ty to all staff for a memorable easter monday lunchtime treat … Lobster and prawn risotto one of the best we have ever had even better than the ones we ate in milan home of risotto! Gnocchi was nice but risotto the choice dish for recommendation to other diners Dessert always special here As rich and decadent as the chocolate tart was the sticky date pudding was a clear winner this time ! And good value honestly $15 a dessert and this quality we have found nowhere else ! Great selection of wine beer and cocktails something for everyone We will be back as for the excellent service -attentive and friendly so often not the case these days ( not one grumpy face on staff and they had worked daily very hard over the easter break ) compliments to the whole team especially those talented chefs ✅✅✅ The view on a sunny day is usually stupendous but bit grey on this day however the food more than made up for it !😋😋
Sydney Must-Visit Restaurant: The Basin Dining Room Mona Vale 🌊 A dreamy "me time" lunch by the ocean ✨ Appetiser: Foie Gras Cornet Duck pâté, brik pastry & port jelly This is the most adorable starter. It looks exactly like an ice cream cone, with a crispy, flaky brik pastry shell holding rich, silky duck pâté, balanced perfectly by sweet port jelly. It’s not just photogenic (hello, Instagram gold 🤩) — the flavour is incredible: creamy, sweet, and savoury all in one bite. 🦪 Starter: South Australian Mussels Dashi bisque, confit shallots, gremolata & focaccia If you love plump, juicy, buttery mussels, RUN to order this! The restaurant absolutely nails it — the mussels are so fresh and tender, and i only wish the bisque is more sweeter for me to down it in one go. 🤗 Taste the mussels and soup without Tabasco first to savour the original flavour, then add a dash for a spicy kick that elevates it to a whole new level. 🥩 Main: Wagyu Skewers (2 pieces) Master stock glaze, house pickles & fresh horseradish I was craving a meaty finish but couldn’t fit a full main, so I grabbed these from the starter menu — best decision ever. The wagyu is so juicy, tender and very tasty sauce. And $24 for two wagyu skewers at a fine-dining spot in Sydney with such a beautiful ocean view? That’s an absolute steal these days, what a pleasant surprise 🤣 4/5 for service is due to the water and Proceco was served after I finished the appetiser. But I did order food and drink at the same time though. So…😳 I promise I’m not a fussy diner. Lol 🤣
