Reviews
The location is excellent and the hotel certainly has character. It does not quite make it as 5 star. The room we had was in need of some TLC send an upgrade. Due to the nature of the building the Bar and Dining spaces were either too warm or too cold. The location is excellent with an interesting history. Walking distance to a variety of higher end dining experiences. It's also very close to the motorway with easy parking and access if you need to go further afield. From this location it is a pleasant walk through the botanic gardens into the city or around the harbour.
We recently stayed at the suites at Ovolo Wooloomooloo and have had an incredible experience here all round. Here are the most standout qualities about the hotel: 1) First and foremost is the exceptional customer service we received throughout our stay. The reception staff were genuinely warm and helpful. Upon checkin you are personally escorted to your room which was a lovely and nice touch. 2) Integration of modern space while still preserving the cultural heritage of the building. The layout of the upper level suite has a lower level with lounge and kitchenette while there is a separate upper mezzanine for the bed and ensuite. It felt more like a cozy apartment than a cramped basic hotel room. 3) Restaurant staff - special shoutout to Deepa at breakfast who had our coffee and egg orders down pat by the second day and made us feel extremely well looked after. 4) Minibar prices were very reasonable and this is probably the first time I've ever taken from the minibar. 5) Location - whilst not in the heart of Sydney CBD we loved that it was not too far out of the way but also far enough from the hectic hustle and bustle if that's what you're after. The area was quiet and peaceful. 6) And finally what prompted me to leave this detailed review - I emailed the feedback email provided to guests over a few minor items I feel could further elevate guest experience and promptly received a thoughtful and non-AI (as far as I can discern) generated response from the current Managing Director. Here are a few minor feedback I have to an otherwise flawless experience: - A number of fixtures in the room have a matte black finish, which does tend to accentuate dust gathered, especially in the nooks and crannies and the rooms could do with a deep clean, which I appreciate is beyond the scope what what housekeeping staff could realistically achieve for day to day turnover. - Skylight shutters in the suites have to be manually opened and closed with a rod (a minor inconvenience). - The pool table (free to use for restaurant guests) at the bar could do with re-felting (but part of the Australian charm to play on a pool table that's seen its days) In summary from the plethora of positive things I have to say about the Ovolo I feel like they really set the benchmark for what Australian hospitality ought to be.
We had our small wedding reception at the Ovolo on today last year in 2025. (Sorry we really forgot to put in our good words!) It was an amazing experience and we’re so thankful for all the help the staff gave us. We didn’t have a wedding planner and the hotel staff help put up the welcoming banner and decorated with flowers and lights. The long tables also looked stunning and staff arranged the lighting and put the supplied flowers on. We almost DIY the whole reception and we received really warm and friendly help from the hotel. They were managing our alcohol consumption responsibly and served the wedding cake beautifully. We felt they respected us even it was just a 35 ppl reception. The venue was the “kitchen” and the vibe was great at night with all the lighting. The interior is also quite photogenic and we had some “magazine” feel photo shoots there in the morning of the day as it was raining outside we couldn’t do it outside. Overall it is probably THE BEST venue for small reception, especially if you’re after a more relaxed and warm house party like vibe. P.s. there are various types of seating places for guests and the whole environment is chic and fun.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Ovolo Woolloomooloo. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. The staff were warm, professional, and genuinely eager to make our stay memorable. Nothing was too much trouble, and their attention to detail really stood out throughout our visit. The room was beautifully presented, spotless, and extremely comfortable, with stunning waterfront views and plenty of thoughtful touches. One of the highlights of our stay was the buffet breakfast, which was outstanding. There was a fantastic variety of fresh, high-quality options, and everything was delicious. It was the perfect way to start each day. The location is also excellent, close to the harbour, restaurants, and many of Sydney’s attractions. Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. Highly recommend staying here.
Overall my stay was okay. Not great value for the quality of my stay. Housekeeping was lacking. on arrival at the room there was rubbish from the last guest and things from the bathroom weren't there ( bath salts, soap bar). we had to ask several times for them to refill the bath salts and they finally did on day 2. Overall housekeeping wasn't very thorough. Lovely view. Pool was great. Alcohol free drink options were nice, 2 options for mocktails and you could order juice, soft drinks or redbull (I think). I had a nice stay but it wasn't worth the money.
